Fremantle Guide: What to See, Eat and Do in WA's Port City

Fremantle sits 19 kilometres southwest of Perth and offers a character and pace quite different from the capital. The West End heritage precinct preserves Victorian limestone buildings housing cafes, galleries and bars, while the weekend Fremantle Markets on South Terrace draw large crowds for food, art and handmade goods. The fishing boat harbour is the place for fresh seafood, and the ferry to Rottnest Island (Wadjemup) departs from Victoria Quay. The Fremantle Prison, now a World Heritage-listed site, offers tours. Fremantle is easily reached by train from Perth city in about 30 minutes.
