Best Day Trips from Perth: Wine, Islands and the Valley

Perth's surroundings offer some of the best day-trip options of any Australian city. Rottnest Island (Wadjemup), home to quokkas and clear turquoise bays, is a 30-minute ferry ride from Fremantle and one of the most popular day trips in the state. The Swan Valley wine and food region starts about 25 kilometres northeast of the CBD, with cellar doors, chocolate factories, nougat shops and a microbrewery trail. The Pinnacles Desert in Nambung National Park is a three-hour drive north but commonly covered in a day tour. For beach lovers, the Turquoise Coast towns of Lancelin and Cervantes offer a different pace from Perth's metropolitan beaches.
