Best Parks in Perth: Kings Park, Cottesloe Beach and the Swan River Foreshore

Perth is one of Australia's most green cities and the Swan River that bisects the metropolitan area provides a 30 km foreshore of parks, wetlands and recreation corridors that are accessible by path from the CBD to the outer suburbs. Kings Park and Botanic Garden on the Mount Eliza escarpment overlooking the Swan River and the CBD is the most significant public park in Perth and one of the largest inner-city parks in the world at 400 hectares, with a 17-hectare botanic garden, bushland walks and panoramic city views that make it the most visited attraction in Western Australia. The Cottesloe Beach foreshore and its grassed park between the beach and Marine Parade is the city's most celebrated beach park, used for swimming, the Sculpture by the Sea annual event and regular community gatherings. Matilda Bay Reserve at Crawley on the Swan River is a protected bay with a sandy beach and park used heavily by university students and the surrounding community. The Bold Park bushland reserve adjacent to City Beach provides 437 hectares of native banksia woodland accessible for walking from western suburbs. Penguin Island in the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park south of Rockingham has accessible beach and wildlife experience.
