Best Day Trips from Perth
Perth's isolation as Australia's most remote major city is also one of its greatest assets — the day trip destinations around Perth are largely undiscovered by international tourism and remain genuinely pristine. The Swan Valley wine region lies just 30 minutes from the CBD, the Yanchep National Park offers koala encounters and caves within 45 minutes, and the stunning Pinnacles Desert at Nambung National Park is a two-hour drive north.
The Margaret River wine and surf region, three hours south, is technically achievable as a very long day trip but is more rewarding as a weekend break. Fremantle, just 30 minutes by train, is a day trip in itself — a port city of remarkable character with colonial architecture, weekend markets, a vibrant café scene, and excellent seafood. Rottnest Island, reachable by ferry in 25 minutes, is home to the quokka and some of Western Australia's most beautiful beaches.
