Group exercise classes at council-run facilities: a guide
Perth councils run dozens of weekly group fitness sessions at indoor and outdoor venues that suit a range of fitness levels and budgets.
How we reported this

More than 2,400 residents registered for council-run group exercise classes across Perth metro facilities between January and June 2026.
The increase follows the release of new winter timetables that added extra morning slots at several venues. Councils report steady demand from people who prefer supervised sessions over solo runs along the Swan River or 5 km trails in Kings Park.
Key council venues and class options
Loftus Recreation Centre on Loftus Street in Leederville runs three circuit classes each week under the Town of Vincent program. Sessions include body-weight intervals and light resistance work on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. The same centre offers a seniors balance class on Thursday afternoons that draws regular participants from nearby Mount Hawthorn.
Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre on Abernethy Road hosts aqua aerobics and low-impact dance classes five days a week through the City of Belmont. Morning sessions start at 8:30 am and use the indoor pool to reduce joint strain. Both centres accept casual visitors and members of other Perth councils under reciprocal arrangements.
Classes at these sites sit within broader community programs that also cover park runs at Kings Park on Saturday mornings and supervised cycling groups along the Swan River path.
Costs, schedules and next steps
A single class costs $14 at Loftus Recreation Centre and $12 at Belmont Oasis when paid on the day. Ten-visit passes reduce the per-session price to $11 and $9.50 respectively. The City of Vincent published its July to September timetable on 2 July, listing 68 group sessions across its sites for the quarter.
Residents can book online through each council website or at the front desk. New participants are advised to arrive 15 minutes early for a short health questionnaire. Anyone with an existing medical condition should speak with a GP before joining.
Updated class lists appear on council noticeboards each month, and spots fill quickly for popular early-evening sessions near the CBD.
