Group exercise classes at council-run facilities: a guide
Perth locals are turning to affordable council venues for structured group fitness sessions that fit around work and family routines.
How we reported this

Bookings for group exercise classes at Perth council facilities have risen sharply in the past month, with several venues reporting full sessions by mid-morning on weekdays.
Winter weather and higher private gym fees have pushed more residents toward local government programs that combine low cost with reliable timetables. City budgets for 2025-26 allocated extra funds to community recreation, and the City of Perth recorded a 19 percent increase in class attendance between April and June this year.
Venues offering regular sessions
The City of Vincent runs multiple weekly classes at the Loftus Community Centre on Loftus Street in Leederville. Yoga, circuit training and aqua aerobics fill the timetable from 6am to 8pm most days, with a 45-minute strength class held every Tuesday at 7pm. Further east, the Town of Victoria Park schedules group sessions at the Leisurelife Centre on Canning Highway. Participants meet for indoor cycling and balance work on Thursday mornings, using equipment funded through the centre’s 2024 upgrade.
Both sites sit within easy reach of the Swan River cycle path, allowing residents to combine a class with a ride from Kings Park or the Causeway. The programs accept casual visitors as well as those with multi-visit passes.
Costs and access details
A single class costs $14 at either venue, while a 10-visit pass sells for $120. Concession rates drop the price to $10 per session for holders of a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card. New participants must complete a simple online form at least 24 hours before their first visit. Timetables and exact room numbers appear on each council website and update every Sunday evening.
Residents can check availability through the City of Vincent or Town of Victoria Park portals before heading out. Staff at the front desks also hold printed copies for those without internet access.
