Spain Football Titles: 16 Wins Across Five Years

Spain have secured 16 world and European titles at senior and youth levels in the past five years, a run that covers both the men's and women's games from under-17 upwards. The latest addition came with the men's senior side lifting the 2026 World Cup after a final win over Argentina.

Coaching appointment that delivered three senior trophies

Luis de la Fuente was named head coach in December 2022, shortly after Spain's last-16 exit to Morocco at the Qatar World Cup and the departure of Luis Enrique. The choice was viewed as risky because de la Fuente had never managed a major club side. He had retired as a player in 1994 and spent 15 years in lower-league, youth and assistant roles before progressing through Spain's own youth and Olympic teams. Since taking charge he has added the 2023 Nations League, 2024 European Championship and 2026 World Cup.

Spain's senior men have now won three of the last five European Championships, in 2008, 2012 and 2024. The current squad remains unbeaten in its last 38 matches across all competitions, the longest such sequence recorded by any European or South American national team.

Youth pipeline and women's rapid rise

The men's under-19s claimed the European title in 2026 while the under-23s won Olympic gold in 2024. On the women's side, the senior team captured the 2023 World Cup in only their third tournament appearance after debuting in 2015, then followed with back-to-back Nations League wins in 2024 and 2025. The under-19 women have won five straight European titles from 2022 to 2026, and the under-17s added both the 2022 World Cup and 2024 European crown.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague described the sequence as the result of a cultural approach that everyone now accepts. He noted that the men's side had previously scaled a similar peak after the 2008 Euros and 2010 World Cup, and that the current group shows no sign of easing its standards. Former midfielder Juan Mata observed that de la Fuente already knew many of the players from academy days, creating continuity between present and future squads.

After the World Cup final, de la Fuente told reporters that players had asked what remained to be won, only to conclude that the focus shifts immediately to the next fixture in September. The team, he said, remains relentless.
