Online Radio Growth Reshaping Perth Job and Talent Market

Online radio platforms added 180 positions in Perth over the past six months, with roles concentrated in content production, digital marketing and audience analytics.

The shift matters now because listener numbers for Perth-based internet stations jumped 37 percent between January and June 2026, according to industry tracking data, pulling talent away from traditional broadcast outlets and into hybrid digital roles that pay 15 to 25 percent above legacy radio salaries.

Local stations expand hiring on key corridors

Stations operating from offices near Hay Street in the CBD and from a converted warehouse in Northbridge have posted openings for podcast producers and live-stream technicians in the last month. RTRFM, based on Beaufort Street, launched a new training program in June that partners with Curtin University to place 12 graduates into paid internships focused on online audience growth.

Another operator, located two blocks from the Perth Cultural Centre, reported filling eight remote-editing posts last quarter at starting salaries of $78,000, up from $65,000 two years earlier, reflecting competition for staff who can manage both on-air and app-based delivery.

Evidence points to sustained demand

A May 2026 survey by the Western Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry found 62 percent of Perth media firms planned to increase headcount by at least 10 percent before December, citing online radio revenue that reached $4.2 million across the metro area in the first quarter. Average time-to-fill for digital audio roles has stretched to 47 days, compared with 29 days for general marketing positions.

Employers seeking candidates with audio-editing software experience and basic data interpretation should list openings on Seek and LinkedIn by the end of July, when several stations plan their next recruitment round ahead of the spring programming slate.
