Perth Digital Ventures Spot New Openings as Local Content Platforms Draw Steady Ad Dollars
Smaller operators along Hay Street and in Subiaco are locking in contracts while larger national players focus elsewhere.
How we reported this

Perth media firms that moved early into online radio and local streaming have recorded a 27 percent lift in advertising bookings since the start of 2026, according to internal figures circulated by the Perth Media Association last month.
The shift follows repeated national service disruptions that pushed listeners toward independent digital stations. Companies that already held local licences and maintained backup servers avoided the same interruptions and captured displaced audiences within days.
Operators securing early contracts
Two venues on William Street in Northbridge now run sponsored segments that mention specific businesses by name each weekday morning. A Subiaco-based production studio signed a six-month agreement with three Fremantle retailers in April, charging A$1,200 per week for 30-second spots. Both arrangements were finalised before the latest round of national connectivity problems.
City of Perth records show 14 new digital-content licences were issued for addresses inside the 6000 postcode between January and June this year. Most went to firms already operating small recording spaces above retail shops rather than to national networks.
Numbers behind the bookings
Australian Bureau of Statistics data released on 3 July placed Perth’s digital advertising spend at A$48 million for the March quarter, up from A$37 million twelve months earlier. Local stations captured 19 percent of that total, compared with 11 percent in the same period of 2025.
Analysts at the University of Western Australia’s business school noted that firms with existing server capacity in the CBD avoided the extra costs that hit operators reliant on interstate infrastructure.
Businesses considering entry should first check current licence availability through the City of Perth planning portal and confirm server redundancy with at least one local data centre before committing to air-time packages.
